Knowledge and Service.
- Two simple words, tied together, as they should be when it comes to your Cycling needs.
- Our Knowledge base comes from 40
plus years in the industry; selling, maintaining or riding around Southern California. We provide application of that knowledge to solving your desires as a cyclist.
- Whether you want assistance in deciding to repair and keep your current bike or replace it- we stand ready to assist you in making an informed decision. We don't exactly give away our time but test rides and advice are indeed free and we challenge any other shop to beat our pricing either on the repair side, or the price of our new bikes.
- Bikes are deceptively simple in appearance and operation but don't be fooled into thinking you can quickly educate yourself well enough to do more than the most basic repairs. The same holds true when selecting a new bike.
- Bicycles are complex, non-linear dynamic mechanical systems and unless it's a one-speed cruiser, need to be serviced at least once a year.
- An inexperienced bike mechanic working on their own shifting for example, is like a lawyer defending themselves: they have a fool for a client.
- We spend lots of time fixing other peoples “fixes”, so save time and money- bring it to us first, use our knowledge and get some value for your hard-earned money.
- Selecting a new bike? Maybe your bike is fine and you don't need to invest more than a repair bill.
- Do not, unless you think of your bike as disposable, buy a bike from a big-box (e.g. Target or Wal-mart) just because it has a familiar name on the frame. Virtually all production bikes are made in Asia (most in the same factory) so the differences are no longer in the brand, rather the selection of components and how closely the design adheres to the ergonomic needs of the rider.
- The “pedal-forward” design (i.e. Townies) put too much pressure on your lower back and knees, because the saddle is too far behind the crank to pedal correctly.
- Schwinn and Huffy bikes use inferior bearings in their hubs so the bike won't roll easily and they are assembled by the same guys that stock shelves.
- You get what you pay for and our bikes are all hand-assembled and adjusted right in our little workshop in the back, so they "roll out" right, the first time you ride one.
- The Service part of our slogan. You get the bike shop with the bike. We stand behind out work and our Suppliers give us excellent warranty support in the unlikely event something does go wrong. Try to get a simple adjustment on your new bike from Target. It's easier for them to replace the bike rather than fix it - but then you have another poorly-built bike from Target.
- We have been on Main Street in various locations for more than 35 years and under the current ownership since 1997. Our track record speaks for itself.
- In an era when it seems everything changes faster than we sometimes want, Main Street Cyclery continues to provide solid Service, repair and competitively-priced new bikes to Seal Beach and local communities.
- We plan to do so for a very long time. Come by and see us-we are open everyday 10-6 weekdays, Saturday 9-5 and 11-3 Sundays. We are located at 317 Main Street (just a 1/2 block from PCH). Call us at 562 430-3903 or email at bikeshoponmain@gmail.com.
