Don't Spin your Wheels: Bike & Board to Better Health!

A new event is coming to Seal Beach, one focused on youth health sponsored by local merchants. The wave of concern by the National Institutes for Health (NIH), the organization We Can! became a core driver of activities and programming designed to help youth become more active, modify their diets and spend less "screen time". With this in mind, Dave Dunton, Seth Eaker and Cameron Vodegel of Main Street Cyclery decided to help make a difference. Their brainstorm, a BMX and skateboard event to encourage youth to get more active. As Dave said, "Seal Beach has perfect weather to get out and get some exercise." He continued, "As a local merchant it makes sense to encourage our customers, many of whom are young families to have fun on a bike together." His wife Kim and the public relations director Kathy Berry of Community Hospital of Long Beach immediately saw the benefit of having the hospital be a part. They will be doing cholesterol and blood sugar screening for youth during the event. Furnace, another local merchant was exited to have a hand in encouraging their product and riders. According to Randy Padayao, their team will be providing demonstrations, product giveaways and a question & answer workshop for skateboard riders. The exhibition will utilize a fun box, quarter pipe and jump ramp to show a variety of moves and have a free ride with participants. So on February 24th from 11 am to 4 pm, grab your board or bike and come on down to Seal Beach for the best youth health event in Southern California – right here in Seal Beach.
